Monday (Theory): Today’s lecture and tutorial looked into explaining Methodology and the different methods of methodology. From hearing about some of the described methods I feel reassured that my current approach to my work so far (as seen in my slides so far)
[FEEDBACK]:
Reframe my Research Question
Find/Supplement sources for the new question.
Start writing on the methodology video essay.
Re-write annotation based on feedback from Theory & Context Formative submission. Also create/re-write new annotation (and sources) to meet the required four annotations.
Wednesday (Studio): For the morning class, Hossein went through another round of one-on-one’s with the class, looking at the updated version of the animatic that we currently have available. In terms of feedback, Hossein was satisfied with my animatic except for one scene which could be redrawn to be more clear, more explicit with its idea and in connecting them through symbolism.
In the afternoon session, I had a one-on-one with Jason. I showed him my animatic and he gave me some feedback regarding storytelling and setting.
Make the “creative space” setting more clear in its establishment.
Show progress in reaching the goal; what are the stakes?
While I do agree with how I could further improve the visual storytelling and narrative, I am feeling vexed in how the details are focused on, in how there is supposed to be a purposeful meaning behind them. I suppose this just informs me in how I would need to be able to explain my work confidently and easily in what it is and what it is about.
As such, I will do my best to improve the work based on the feedback but I wouldn't want to spend too much time on it; the few remaining weeks of the semester should be left for the creation of the assets that I would need for my Pre-Production package.
PROGRESS REPORT
I once again showed my new and improved ‘animatic’ videos to peers for feedback. Using the same audience as last time, Sera:
Could see what the message of my story is despite not reading my revised treatment. I consider this as a successful result but I would need to check with more of my peers for more consistent and valid justification of the work so far.
Well-paced, relatable, and visually follow-able.
Update I: I have encountered some problems now that I am nearing into finishing the storyboard. I have drawn a few more panels for “Part 2” of the middle section and I worry that I am running out of time (or rather space?) to include the remaining development of the section. I would need to look into exactly how long a credit roll would go in my work to adapt accordingly. I would also need to cut some more ideas out if I cannot somehow present them in a more efficient way.
Update II: I have finished my animatic which is surprisingly left at exactly 1 minute and 30 seconds. It was a shame that I had to cut out some of the sequences that I drew as it caused my actual film to go way over the time limit- even past the 10 second leeway that I gave myself. At the time I felt a bit dejected as it felt like the compromise on time and therefore the number of shots made my ideas too simple; not fully explained, but looking back on the work, a strong foundation in expressing the idea is more important and helpful. I am a bit excited to show my work to Hossen and to my friends as I am kind of proud of how I spaced the timing so as to be flowing and immersive.
