Monday (Theory): The morning lecture was cancelled. For the afternoon tutorial, we got a library session. This covered the tips and tricks in using the search engine to find useful sources for our bibliography, and a latter part in the tutorial that covers over how to do our introduction and our annotations. This part was VERY useful. It gave a breakdown into how to structure our writing, making the ideas flow into texts analytically and critically. I would need to improve my draft of my annotations once I receive the feedback for them back from the formative submission. Until then I would focus on the studio work of the capstone.
[Feedback]:
Improve the annotation drafts, and do more annotations (To be continued).
Wednesday (Studio): In the morning class, Hossein covered a class on working in Houdini. It was a helpful, informative class. It was surprising to realise how a lot of effort goes into making simulations, and how rewarding it is to understand the tools that are present in the software to make the result you wanted.
For the afternoon class, we had a one-on-one feedback class with Lesley. On my turn, I showed Lesley what I have worked on and what I have developed so far since our last one-on-one. I talked about how I made the test animatic for my ‘current’ story and that informed me that it is too long for the current assignment with its 90-second time constraint. So I made a new story, which could be said to be another treatment completely. During our talk, Lesley helped me analyse into how to make the story relate to my theory, so that the capstone is truly a practice-based research.
I found how I need to have sources that would support some key aspects of my story- looking into what I consider, into why I use certain aspects and choices, and into what they mean. Basically, I need to be able to clearly, easily, and logically flow the theoretical background behind my work. Lesley also suggested some more creative constraints I could use to help me in this process.
There is a lot of work to be done as I need to finish a proper treatment, storyboard, and perhaps script by the end of the mid-semester break.
[Feedback]:
Work on Theory with research on relevant sources and improving my annotations.
Work on the Story to be more clear in its messages, that what is being communicated is explained and relevant in my research
Work on the Storyboard. Must have finished the intro, ending, and middle part.
