As I was rethinking over my story, I decided to do an impromptu animatic of just the storyboards for the intro. It was only 10 pages so I thought it wouldn’t take too much time when viewing it as a video. But I was mistaken.
I luckily found an easier way to add the screenshot (via snip tool) of the storyboards into Premiere Pro. Since this process was easy, I decided to add sounds and kind of give the visuals time to let the sounds resonate(?), give it room to breathe, for the audience to immerse in. It was simple effects but it gives an idea of what proper sounds would be placed and where.
I found it interesting that, because of the available sound design from youtube and other websites, the sound design process was easy to access. But it was still difficult to find the right sounds that I am looking for. If I was told to make my own sounds, I would be hard-pressed, and would need to dedicate more time to experiment in this regard, probably over semester break?
On a side note, I kind of reconfigured my story and it’s probably shorter? I will need to draw thumbnails and check its timing once again. This will mean that I will probably be discarding the previous drafts and drawings too, unless they are still useful…
(Later on this week...)
Current Research Question: “How do animation elements such as expressions and movement contribute to the creation of captivating personalities when set in dynamic sequences, enhancing audience engagement and visual attention, and fostering immersion?”
Suggestion from Lesley: “Exploring cool through animation practice”
Keywords: Excitement, Cartoon, Comedy, Dynamic, Personality
Research Areas: Cinematography, Animation, Cool
Current Message(s):
Cool is an impression, not a personality.
Everybody is special (cool) in their own way, in their own time, in their own moments.
Extraordinary in the Ordinary; “magic in the mundane”(?)
Considered Compromise:
Be yourself (Message)
Be creative (Message)
Be inspiring (Message)
Have Fun. (Message)
Simplicity: of ideas, story, message.
What do I want to do:
Good animation. This consists of animation personality (visual and physical expressions) and animation actions (dynamic scenes).
For dynamic scenes, a lot of overlapping, simultaneous animations BECAUSE it is cool and visually impressive. Good execution of timing and spacing, and can be visually followed.
For expressions, an easy way to execute this is through comedy but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Due to the given time constraint in the work it would be difficult to display personality fully, and in a considerable cast of characters.
Problem:
Time constraint- not a lot of time for ideas. Not a lot of time given to properly display and/or develop..
Dynamic scenes- flowing and subsequent; temporally linear(?).
Structure/format of story- an interaction and making a story out of that seems more achievable than trying to fit a proper story in the time frame instead.
