[WEEK 1] Starting Off

This is the first of a series of posts that would document the progress in my third, and final year of university studying for a Bachelor of Design degree, majoring in AVG (formerly known as Digital Design), specialising in Animation.

The assignment is a year-long project dedicated to a personal and passionate idea that we wish to develop fully. This work would be known as our "Capstone", and would contain significant execution within our chosen specialisation. At this point in time, I may be unsure but I know that I want to work on something exciting, cool, impressive, creative.

For now my current thoughts are:

  • What is peace? Chaos? The status quo? Relation to social adaptivity?

  • The feeling of being jaded? Is it familiarity or a fatigue of one? Is there a lack of passion and excitement in this feeling?

  • Sensory overload?

  • Passion? Fighting passion? Adrenaline? Dopamine?

  • Social battery related to the feeling of jaded? Attention span? Trailers? Ads? Anime Openings?

  • Rogue-like games are exciting despite being simple...

  • "Hard images"; images that go hard. (This is an inspiration).

  • Creativity endorses imagination.

  • Imagination leads to a new age.

  • Inspirational, motivational.

  • Make for the extra in the ordinary; be extra-ordinary.

For now my ideas are:

  • mini transformation scenes? From normal to 'unique' - interesting equipment/quality shown.

  • POV switching? Like 'direct' jump from character to character. Think of like a parasite but for camera view? 3rd person POV? Camera man blog/vlog vibe?

  • The magical is hidden within the mundane? Like disguised?

  • What's so inspiring about heroes? About them like normal people?

  • Become the cause for a stir. A call for "heroes".

    • Maybe I create a 'villanous' character (resembling/connected to me? a persona?) that attacks heroes, normal people first. Then the heroes get hit in friendly cross-fire and 'defend' against each other, loosen up and in the end aim for the villian?

As such, my initial research questions are:

  • How can interest in the concept and dynamic action of a work be maintained before it becomes exhausting to an audience?

    • Audience engagement, and elements that revolve around the delivery of the visual narrative.

  • How can concept art influence and direct the immersion of a kid's show narrative, as opposed to an adult show narrative?

    • Concept art in kids shows compared to concept art in more mature works such as games.

  • What is the most effective way to maintain interest and excitement and excitement in short visual sequences?

Reflection

Working on my own for this year-long project has been an interesting experience. I wanted to work on my own because I had ambitious ideas...

[WEEK 25] Progress Report

A lot of technical issues had arisen this time.  Created the maya scene for the poster by cutting out and moving elements from the dorm...
